My Aunt Merc Kessler continues to be my inspiration for tatting.  I used to watch her tat when I was a child and she was over 80 years old then.  She was almost blind and tatted (using size 80 thread) mostly by feel.  It was fascinating to a little girl to watch yards of lace appear from within her fingers, just like magic.

It is still magical, some 35 years later, to watch the things I can make now appear within my own fingers as I transform plain thread (mostly size 20 and size 5) into beautiful lace creations.  I think of her often and wish I could talk to her about tatting and everything it has become.  I didn't have the opportunity to learn from her.  I had to teach myself.  But she inspires me to keep this lovely craft alive, along with her lovely memory.

I was inspired to begin the practice of quilling much later than childhood.  The look of rolled paper seemed similar to the tatted rings I had been making for many years.  Endless possibilities now lay ahead, so many ideas to create in paper and in thread.  I hope I can help inspire you.
